No eligibility? We tell you upfront — saving you time and money.

2

Government Approvals & Documentation

Vehicle Import Approvals (VIA) through ROVER, compliance documentation, customs declarations, biosecurity requirements. This is where many imports fail — our experience prevents costly errors.

3

Your vehicle is shipped on modern, reliable carriers with secure handling, realistic timelines and full transparency throughout the journey — shared container or RORO.

4

Australian Customs & Compliance

We manage customs clearance, coordinate inspections, asbestos testing and RAW compliance work to ensure every Australian standard is met. No confusion. No last-minute surprises.

5

Final Delivery To Your Door

Once approved and compliant, your vehicle is released and delivered — ready for registration in your state or territory.

IMPORT PATHWAYS

The Right Scheme,
For The Right Vehicle

Australian vehicle importation operates under multiple government pathways. Picking the wrong one is the most common — and most expensive — mistake. Here's how we match your vehicle to the right scheme.

SECTION 36 · RVSR 2019

The 25-Year Rule

Vehicles 25 years or older (measured by build date, not model year) qualify for import under concessional entry. Perfect for classic Mustangs, R32 Skylines, Land Rover Defenders and pre-2001 collectables.

  • VIA processing typically 3–4 weeks
  • Passenger cars (MA), light goods (NA), motorcycles, tricycles
  • No RAWS modification required for non-road or pre-reg use

SEVS REGISTER

Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme

For modern performance, rare, or unique vehicles meeting one of six eligibility criteria. All SEVS imports must be processed by a Registered Automotive Workshop (RAW).

  • Performance: >110 kW/tonne (pre-2020) or >130 kW/tonne (2020+)
  • Rarity: fewer than 3,000 units/year per make
  • Environmental, mobility, LHD-original & campervan criteria

PERSONAL IMPORT SCHEME

For Expats & Returning Residents

Australian citizens, PRs and eligible visa holders who've owned their vehicle overseas for 12+ months can import it under the Personal Import option — one vehicle per five years.

  • 10% GST applies; duty & LCT may apply by value
  • Continuous 12-month ownership & use overseas required
  • Concessions available on compliance requirements

AVOID COSTLY DELAYS
DON'T LEARN THE HARD WAY

Avoid Costly
Import Mistakes

Many people attempt to import vehicles themselves — and regret it. The most expensive part of importing a car is usually the part you didn't know about.

  • Vehicles rejected due to eligibility errors
  • Unexpected compliance & asbestos costs
  • Long delays at port & quarantine
  • Incorrect or missing documentation
  • Vehicles stuck in customs limbo

With Dazmac, you get it done right the first time.

SPECIALISTS — NOT FREIGHT BROKERS

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to import a car into Australia?

Timeframes vary depending on approval type, origin country and compliance requirements. As a guide, VIA processing alone is 3–4 weeks; UK assessments through ROVER can take up to 60 business days; sea freight from Japan averages 20–30 days. We'll provide a realistic, end-to-end estimate during your quote.

Can any car be imported into Australia?

No. Australian regulations are strict and not every vehicle qualifies. That's why eligibility assessment is always the first step we handle — against the 25-year rule, SEVS Register, Personal Import Scheme, concessional RAV entry and non-RAV pathways.

Are there hidden costs?

No. We provide transparent pricing and explain all potential costs upfront — including freight, marine insurance, customs duty, 10% GST, Luxury Car Tax (if applicable), asbestos testing, compliance work and delivery.

Do you handle everything?

Yes — from approvals to shipping to compliance and delivery. We're a licensed Customs & Quarantine broker with bonded depots in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Fremantle.

What about asbestos testing?

Australia has a zero-tolerance asbestos policy. Testing is mandatory and costs roughly $800–$1,000 if done locally. We can coordinate offshore testing before shipment to save you time and money.

Do you ship via RoRo or container?

Both. Shared container is best for valuable, modified or low-clearance vehicles. RoRo is cost-effective for standard road cars. We'll recommend the right method per vehicle.
